Time of Prayer

 
 
 


The Karites teach that prayer is strictly to remind us of sacrifice. Since we have no temple.

Hosea: 14. 2.

so will we render the calves of our lips.
וּנְשַׁלְּמָה פָרִים שְׂפָתֵֽינוּ׃

***THE THREE PRAYERS
[1] Ma7ariv מעריב
Noon-Evening 9th hour 3pm-...
*second lamb
[2] 5acarit שחרית
Morning 3rd hour 9am
*first lamb
[3] Mincah מנחה
Midday 6th hour 12:00

*The etymology of Noon is from Nine. It used to mean 3pm
*3aharayim צהריים is the Mincah or third prayer
*The specific word for Noon or 3pm in ancient Hebrew is 7e3em hayom עצם היום literally 'bone of the day'
*The second lamb was offered between 3pm and sunset

Psalm: 55. 17. Evening(noon), and morning, and at midday, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
עֶרֶב וָבֹקֶר וְצָהֳרַיִם אָשִׂיחָה וְאֶהֱמֶה וַיִּשְׁמַע קוֹלִֽי׃

Midday (Minchah)

The ninth hour or 'true Noon' is 3pm which is when the second lamb or Tamid offering is sacrificed

Numbers 28. 4. The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer between the evenings
אֶת־הַכֶּבֶשׂ אֶחָד תַּֽעֲשֶׂה בַבֹּקֶר וְאֵת הַכֶּבֶשׂ הַשֵּׁנִי תַּֽעֲשֶׂה בֵּין הָֽעַרְבָּֽיִם׃

Act 3.1. Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
וּפֶטְרוֹס וְיוֹחָנָן הָיוּ עׂלִים יַחְדָּו אֶל־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ לִתְפִלַּת הַמִּנְחָה בַּשָּׁעָה הַתְּשִׁיעִית׃
