        TORAH


1. And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
1 אדם שכב עם חווה אשתו והיא הרתה וילדה בן. היא קראה לבֵּן קַיִן כי אמרה: "קניתי [קיבלתי] איש מאלוהים".
4adam 5a2av 7im cawah 4i5to whi4 hartah wyaldah ben. Hi4 qar4ah lben qayin ki 4amrah: "qaniti [qibalti] 4i5 me4elohim".

2. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
2 אחר כך ילדה חווה את הֶבֶל, אחיו של קין. הבל היה רועה צאן וקין היה עובד אדמה.
4acar ka2 yaldah cawah 4et hevel, 4acayw 5el qayin. Hevel hayah ro7eh 3o4n wqayin hayah 7oved 4adamah.

3. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
3 כעבור ימים רבים הביא קין קרבן לאלוהים מפרי האדמה.
K7over yamim ravim hevi4 qayin qarban l4elohim meperi ha4adamah.

4. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
4 גם הבל הביא קרבן, את הצאן המשובחות ביותר שהיו לו. אלוהים קיבל ברצון את קרבנו של הבל,
Gam hevel hevi4 qarban, 4et ha3o4n hame5ubacot byoter 5ehayu lo. 4elohim qibal bra3on 4et qarbano 5el hevel.

5. But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
5 ואילו את קרבנו של קין דחה. הדבר הכעיס והעציב את קין.
W4ilu 4et qarbano 5el qayin dacah. Hadavar hi27ix whe7e3iv 4et qayin.

6. And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
6 "למה אתה כועס? למה אתה עצוב?", שאל ה' את קין.
"Lamah 4atah ko7ex? Lamah 4atah 7a3uv?", 5a4al H' 4et qayin.

7. If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
7 "הלוא אם תעשה את הטוב, יסָלח לך, אך אם לא תעשה את הטוב, החטא אורב לך. החטא רוצה בך אך אתה יכול למשול בו".
"Halo4 4im ta7aseh 4et ha9ov, yixalac le2a, 4a2 4im lo4 ta7aseh 4et ha9ov, hace94 4orev le2a. Hace94 ro3eh ba2 4a2 4atah lim5ol bo".

8. And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
8 קין דיבר עם הבל אחיו. כאשר היו השניים בשדה התנפל קין על אחיו והרג אותו.
Qayin diber 7im hevel 4acayw. Ka4a5er hayu ha5enayim basadeh hitnapel qayin 7al 4acayw wharag 4oto.

9. And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
9 "איפה הבל אחיך?", שאל ה' את קין.
"אינני יודע. האם אני השומר של אחי?", השיב קין.
"4eyfoh hevel 4aci2a?" 5a4al H' 4et qayin.

"4eyneni yodea7. Ha4im 4ani ha5omer 5el 4aci?", he5iv qayin.

10. And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
10 "מה עשית?!", אמר אלוהים. "דם אחיך זועק אליי מן האדמה.
"Mah 7asita?!", 4amar 4elohim. " dam 4aci2a zo7eq 4elay min ha4adamah.

11. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
11 לכן אני מביא עליך קללה ומגרש אותך מהאדמה שפתחה את פיה ולקחה ממך את דם אחיך.
La2en 4ani mevi4 7aley2a qlalah umegare5 4ot2a meha4adamah 5epatcah 4et piha wlaqcah mim2a 4et dam 4aci2a.

12. When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
12 כאשר תעבוד את האדמה, היא לא תיתן לך יבול. נודד תהיה בארץ".
Ka4a5er ta7avod 4et ha4adamah, hi4 lo4 titen le2a yvul. Noded tihyeh ba4are3".

13. And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
13 "זהו עונש כבד מדי", אמר קין,
"zehu 7one5 kvar miday", 4amar qayin,

14. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
14 "גירשת אותי מאדמתי וגם מהשגחתך. כאשר אנדוד בארץ, כל מי שימצא אותי ירצה להרוג אותי".
"Geyra5ti 4oti m4adamti wgam meha5gacat2a. Ka4a5er 4endod ba4are3, kol mi 5eyim3a4 4oti yir3eh laharog 4oti".

15. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
15 על כך השיב לו ה': "אנקום שבעתיים בכל מי שיהרוג את קין".
ה' שם על קין אות כדי שמי שימצא אותו לא יהרוג אותו.

16. And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
16 קין עזב את המקום והתיישב בארץ נוֹד שממזרח לעדן.
Qayin 7azav 4et hamaqom whitya5ev ba4are3 nod 5ememizrac l7eden.

17. And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18. And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19. And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20. And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21. And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22. And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23. And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
23 למך אמר לנשותיו: "עדה וצילה שִמעו בקולי, נשות למך הקשיבו לדבריי. הרגתי איש כיוון שפגע בי.

24. If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
24 אם נקמת קין הייתה פי שבעה, נקמת למך תהיה פי שבעים ושבעה".

25. And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
25 אדם שכב שוב עם אשתו, והיא ילדה בן. חווה קראה לבן שֵׁת כי אמרה: "אלוהים שָׁת [נתן] לי בן במקום הבל שקין הרג".

26. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
26 גם לשת נולד בן והוא קרא לו אֱנוֹשׁ. בימי אנוש החלו להתפלל לה'.
