TORAH

אברם הולך לכנען ABRAHAM GOES TO CANAAN
1. Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
1 ה' אמר לאברם: "לך לך מארצך, מעיר מולדתך וממשפחתך אל הארץ שאראה לך. 
H' 4amar l4avram: " le2 le2a me4are32a, me7ir moledet umemi5pacte2a 4el ha4are3 5e4ar4eh le2a.

2. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
2 אקים ממך עם גדול ואברך אותך. שמך יהיה מפורסם ותהיה לברכה. 
4aqim mim2a 7am gadol w4avare2 4ot2a. 5em2a yihyeh mfurxam wtihyeh lbera2ah.

3. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
3 אברך את כל מי שמברך אותך ואקלל את כל מי שמקלל אותך. אתה תהיה ברכה לכל עמי העולם".
4avare2 4et kol mi 5emevare2 4ot2a w4aqalel 4et kol mi 5emqalel 4ot2a. 4atah tihyeh bra2ah lkol 7amey ha7olam".

4. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
4 אברם הלך, כפי שאמר לו ה', ולוט הלך אתו. כשיצא מחרן היה אברם בן שבעים וחמש שנה. 
4avram hala2, kfi 5e4amar lo H', wlo9 hala2 4ito. K5eya3a4 mecaran hayah 4avram ben 5iv7im wcame5 5anah.

5. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
5 הוא לקח את שרי אשתו, את לוט בן אחיו ואת כל הרכוש והאנשים שנוספו להם בחרן, ויצא לכנען.

6. And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
6 כשהגיע לכנען עבר אברם בארץ עד שהגיע לאֵלוֹן מוֹרֶה שבאזור שְׁכֶם. באותה תקופה היו הכנענים בארץ.

 7. And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
7 ה' נראה אל אברם ואמר לו: "לצאצאיך אתן את הארץ הזאת". אברם בנה בַּמקום מזבח לה' שנראה אליו.
H' nir4ah 4el 4avram w4amar lo: "l3e4e3a4ey2a 4eten ha4are3 hazo4t".

8. And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
8 משם עבר אברם לאזור ההרים שממזרח לבֵית אֵל. הוא הקים את אוהלו כך שבית אל הייתה ממערב לו והָעַי ממזרח. גם שם בנה מזבח והתפלל לה'.
Me5am 7avar 4avram la4ezor haharim 5wmemizrac lbeyt 4el. Hu4 heqim 4et 4ohelo ka2 5ebayit 4el haytah mema7arav lo ha7u memizrac. Gam 5am banah mizbeac whitpalel LaH'.

9. And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
9 אברם עבר ממקום לiמקום עד שהגיע לנגב.
אברם יורד למצריים
4avram 7avar memaqom lomaqom 7ad5ehigia7 lanegev.

10. And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
10 בארץ היה רעב. אברם ירד לגור במצריים בגלל הרעב הכבד. 
Ba4are3 hayah ra7av. 4avram yarad lagur bmi3rayim biglal hara7av hakaved.

11. And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:    
11 כשקרַב למצריים אמר לשרַי אשתו: "אני יודע שאת אישה יפה מאוד. 
K5eqarav lmi3rayim 4amar lsaray 4i5to: " 4ani yodea7 5e4at 4i5ah yafah me4od.

12. Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
12 כשיִראו אותך המצרים הם יאמרו: 'זאת אשתו', ואז יהרגו אותי ואותך ישאירו בחיים.
 K5eyir4u 4ota2 hami3rayim hem yi4mru: 'zo4t 4i5to', w4az yahargu 4oti w4ota2 ya54iru bcayim.

13. Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
13 אִמרי בבקשה שאת אחותי ויִטב לשנינו, כך אֶנצל בזכותך".
4imri bvaqa5ah 5e4at 4acoti wyi9av l5neynu, ka2 4ena3el biz2ute2".

14. And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
14 כשהגיע אברם למצריים ראו המצרים שאשתו מאוד יפה. 
K5ehigia7 4avram lmi34ayim r4u hami3rayim 5e4i5to me4od yafah.

15. The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
15 גם שרֵי פַּרְעֹה ראו אותה. הם היללו אותה בפני פרעה, והיא נלקחה לביתו. 
Gam sarey par7oh r4u 4otah. Hem hilelu 4otah bifney par7oh, whu4 nilqacah lbeyto.

16. And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
16 בזכותה היטיבו עם אברם. הוא קיבל צאן, בקר, חמורים, עבדים, משרתות, אתונות וגמלים.

17. And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
17 אבל אלוהים גרם לפרעה ולבני ביתו לחלות במחלות קשות בגלל שרַי אשת אברם.
4aval 4elohim garam lpar7oh wlivney beyto laclot bmacalot qa5ot biglal saray 4e5et 4avram.

18. And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
18 פרעה קרא לאברם ושאל: "מה עשית לי? למה לא אמרת שהיא אשתך? 
Par7oh qara4 l4avraham w5a4al: mah 7asita li? Lamah lo4 4amarta 5ehi4 4i5te2a?

19. Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
19 למה אמרת שהיא אחותך? – ואני לקחתי אותה לאישה! הנה אשתך, קח אותה עכשיו ולך!".
Lamah 4amarta 5ehi4 4acot2a? - w4ani laqacti 4otah l4i5ah! Hineh 4i5te2a, qac 4otah 7a25ayw wle2!"

20. And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
20 פרעה ציווה על אנשיו לגרש את אברם, את אשתו ואת כל רכושו, ואנשי פרעה עשו את מה שציווה.
